BOM - Bill of Materials

A Bill of Materials (BOM) is a comprehensive list of parts, items, assemblies, and other materials required to create a product, as well as the instructions needed for gathering and using the required materials. Here are the key requirements for creation of a BOM

1. BOM Line identifier - Name of the BOM

2. Level of the BOM

3. BOM UOM

4. Product Name

5. Has children

6. Parent Prod

1. What is a BOM?

A Bill of Materials (BOM) is a comprehensive list of raw materials, components, assemblies, sub-assemblies, parts, and quantities required to manufacture a product. It serves as a critical document in the manufacturing process, detailing every item necessary to complete the production of a finished product.

2. What are the components of a BOM?

Parent product - The desired finished product is defined as the parent product

Child products - The list of products which are consumed to create the parent product

BOM level - This refers to the hierarchy of the raw materials and Semi finished products required to manufacture the final product

Quantity - The quantity of every component required to build the final product

UOM - The unit of measurement for every component of the BOM

3. Why is BOM required as a separate master?

In any manufacturing process, having a clear structure of the products involved in creating the finished goods allows both the user and the system to identify the quantitative requirements and the hierarchical levels at which these components are involved.

4. I cannot find the required BOM in the system, what should I do?

    If you cannot see a BOM for any product, please raise a MDM Ticket for BOM creation in the freshdesk portal with the below information

• Parent Product 
• List of child products with product code 
• BOM UOM
• Quantity for each line item
• Parent & Child relationship

 5. I need to change the existing BOM details, what should I do?

    Please raise a ticket to the MDM Team for the BOM approval with the list of products to be updated. The MDM team will help to update the BOM

 6. Can we update the price of BOM?

           The BOM master comprises only the product details such as product code, description, quantity and UOM which is sufficient to identify the BOM and its components. Hence, the price is not required for BOM creation or update
